Eleven-year-old Tilly Pages has lived above her grandparents’ bookshop ever since her mother disappeared. One day, Tilly’s favourite book characters appear in the shop, and she discovers she can follow them into their worlds through the magic of bookwandering.

Can her new power solve the mystery of what happened to her mother all those years ago?

“Books are my thing,” she muttered to herself. “I can do books.”

“The books we love when we’re growing up shape us in a special way, Tilly. The characters in the books we read help us decide who we want to be.”

“Often it’s the things that don’t come naturally to us that are the most important”

“Be brave, be curious, be kind.”

“Well, why on Earth does being from a book mean I’m not real?”

“You’re so much like her, Matilda. I don’t want to make you feel like Harry Potter, but you really do have her eyes”

“Books can change minds and change worlds, open doors and open minds, and plant seeds that can grow into magical or even terrifying things.”

“Bookwandering is, at its core, the magic of books and imagination pushed to its limit, and then tipped over a little bit further.”

“Where would you most like to go once we’re allowed *to bookwander*?” she asked.
“Hogwarts! Obvious choice,” Oskar said. “I want to go to the Yule Ball, or maybe watch the dragon task from the Triwizard Tournament. Or meet Luna.”

“You know when you walk into a bookshop and you see al those thousands of books lined up in front of you? That intoxicating feeling of knowing that behind each cover is a different world to explore, like thousands of tiny portals? The thrill of being surrounded by fellow book lovers? That’s what fuels book wandering, and it comes to life in bookshops.”
